International Women's Day
March 8th is widely celebrated in Russia, but post-soviet people do it in a peculiar way. In Russia and other republics of the former USSR, this day doesn't symbolize the fight of women from all over the world for their rights, full equality with men anymore. It’s simply become a women's holiday. It’s customary to talk about their beauty, fragility, tenderness, femininity and to give them flowers, gifts and holiday cards (usually very tacky). A complete loss of the original value.
I wanted to do the exact opposite of what is generally accepted. And I wanted my design not to belittle the feelings of people for whom the original purpose and significance of this date is important. I did not make any inscriptions, images of flowers, but only one geometrical figure, similar to 8. It’s a strong, tough, full of energy symbol, and damn it beautiful!
