This was the occasion to play once again with Trapcode Particular, and especially the multi-systems we have access to since the v15 of the Trapcode Suite. Below you can see the 4 systems independently, and how the merge really well together. Add a bit of glow, color correction, some slow motion and a camera move and the shot is done !

Here is another way I like to use Particular: to make path, light paintings, splines... Here a few light emitters are keyframed above the main streets of my 3D model, and emit a lot of streaklets. The lampposts are also point lights, rendered with trapcode Lux so I can light them up one by one in the previous scene.

Most buildings are basic shapes, either quickly handcrafted or kitbashed. Some splines to make roads and wires, particled-spawned some trees, and sent to Element3D for a nice, fast wireframe render.
Some building were re-used in another composition and in top-view, made for the print version.

Although it was supposed to be only a video at first, the very abstract nature of it had the client ask for a small brochure to be made. Firing up InDesign, I exported some images in very high resolution directly from After Effects without a fuss, and assembled a tri-fold brochure.
