In recent years, I've had the opportunity to meet different people from different backgrounds, both in my country and overseas. While I didn't put myself into the story itself, my experiences and views have encouraged me to bring up the topic.

This isn't a story about the whole Chinese-Indonesian community as a whole. Since a lot of assimilation and migration have happened over the years, we have differences in ethnicity, religions, and social-economic status. I recognize the discrimination our community has faced so far, and I understand if some are traumatized by such things.

Even so, I want to bring up a matter which often occurs in upper-middle Chinese-Indonesian communities. Inspired by an article on Magdalene written by Sheany (https://magdalene.co/story/i-am-chinese-indonesian-and-im-leaving-my-safe-bubble) and Mario Rustan (https://magdalene.co/story/seeing-myself-as-a-biracial-indonesian-instead-of-a-chinese-indonesian), I decided to deliver this story from the perspective of a Chinese-Indonesian girl growing up.
