codeBaroque
i happened to be in an old castle in france during a special exhibition of tapestries from the early baroque and baroque periods. the carpets, which had partly run through and crumbled, still had an overwhelming display of colors and beauty.
as witnesses to a long past exuberant and highly sensual cultural epoch, these carpets left a lasting impression on me.
since quite some time i have tried to convey these impressions into art/design of our days.
codeBaroque is an approach to render the layers of baroque lusciousness, traces of time - which give beautiful things sometimes even more beauty by its transience - and the digital layer; pixelated algorithms as visible structures of our information age...

balance between figurative and undefinable structures
it is a constant back and forth balancing between figurative elements and rather indefinable structures.
the distance of the viewer is of particular importance; if one approaches the image, it seemingly decays to low-resolution pixels, but if one moves away from it, the subject becomes more and more perceptible.
sometimes it's really unbelievable how few pixel points are needed for a - after all - very detailed picture. or how this abstract sea of points suddenly merges into plants and flowers.

made with code (processing), vector for print
since it's fully based on vector elements, the detailed and fine structure is only visible in detail at high resolutions
