Lenga Beech Forest

Only a few minutes from Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego, the hike up to Laguna Esmeralda proceeds through a wide valley, impossible peat mud and a forest of Lenga Beech.
Beavers (an introduced animal) have partially flooded the valley with dam building.
The trees die after drowning in the Beaver created reservoir.
A beaver dam. This one has been breached by the forest rangers to prevent further flooding.
The Lenga Beech, a deciduous tree native to the southern Andes, form an impenetrable forest.
More beaver damage.
