In 2011, the Syrian Civil war started off as peaceful, nonviolent uprisings that quickly escalated to a massive civil war. One of the reasons that made me want to invest in this topic is the lack of well-designed data visualizations on it. Hence, this project is an infographic that deals with the effects that the civil war on Syria. By designing this infographic, I aim to inform people by communicating a humanitarian crisis in a user-friendly manner. I developed a system of pictogram or icons that almost any person could easily identify. This way I made sure that I was delivering the information in the very simple and precise manner while also avoiding any confusion. I aimed for maintaining a consistent visual style throughout the entire infographic and map. The style is quite reduced and simplified for legibility purposes. I believe that as designers, we have a huge responsibility in social change and I believe that by casting light on such important issues, we can have a positive impact on the society. The format of the project is a double-sided A1 print, that is then folded three times to create an A4 brochure.
