Daily Mirror re-branding project

I wanted the experience to be entertaining for the reader. With this in mind I created my newsprint. It works round the idea of the folded m and that every side can be considered the front page. For example some people view the sport section as more important than the front-page news. So it’s more tailored towards what the reader wants. It puts the interests of the reader at the fore, therefore making the experience more entertaining for them.
I based my initial advertising around the concept of the fold in the paper. I wanted the advertising to stay inline with the concept so it simply displays the paper folded around the edge of buildings and street corners. I was keen on the idea of the divided face as felt it directly displayed a difference in opinion. In this example politics but it could also be used to show sporting rivalry, conflict and reality TV contest.
With the same idea as the divided face I created billboards, which are based round the concertina fold. From one side you can see Alex Ferguson face and from the other you can see Arsene Wenger. Again you can apply this to other scenarios.
I based the app around the same ideas of the news print, it divides into two, so on one side you’ve got your front page news and on the other you’ve got your back page news.
Once you’ve selected your content, so for example sport the m splits off which gives it a similar appearance to the news print.
This part of the m stays with you as the menu bar, so when your slide through the headlines or scroll down to read it stays with you.
I wanted to place the app on a in places were people have those spare 5 minutes, so here its at the bus stop.
Yahoo have done a similar thing in America.
It allows people to engaged with the brand directly, and hopefully allow the reader to view the mirror as a product that can work within 21st century life.
