Motion Collab: Galaxy Supernova

Galaxy Supernova is a collaborative project made in 2019 by the motion design blog Layer Lemonade. The briefing was basically that each participant made a 5-second animation with the theme of outer space. Collaborative projects are always more interesting when you mesh artists with different styles and aesthetics together. My animation appears 43 seconds into the video.
This project is very dear to me. I love science, space exploration and of course, animation. My idea has a comic side, too: a giant astronaut playing golf with Earth as the ball. He hit his putt, sending the planet to a black hole.
After considering several different ideas, I decided to go with the golfer astronaut approach. I drew a storyboard that, even in a short project like this, helped me visualize what would be the final animation. Above, you can see the first drawings compared to the final style frames.

To animate the astronaut, I used Duik. It imposed some problems due to the unusual pose of the character when preparing to hit the ball, but it gave me a solid base to work on the movement. I used anticipation to enhance the impact of the putt.
