A50 Open
This concept is 50 feet long open catamaran. The letter A is derived from my previous concept Arkki, because this boat has the same design drivers that Arkki had, environmentally consciously selected materials, technology and future needs.
I was contacted by Esthec and they presented their new composite deck material. The A50 concept is based on green ideology and therefore the Esthec® composite deck suits perfecly for this type of boat. With electric technology and Esthec deck amongst other ecologic materials this boat would be great choice for any boater.
This yacht is different from Arkki in a way that it´s designed for day cruising and chartering, which is why it has large open space. It has two cabins, so she could easily accommodate four passengers, even for longer trips or chartering.
This boat is designed to have good customizing properties, the client could decide how the deck, sun bathing area and the cabins are constructed. The client could even decide how the boat would look like. The colors and the deck pattern could be chosen from many variations, or even designed from specific needs, thanks to the Esthec® composite deck. All this could be done with low cost and manufacturing time.
The top part would function as solar panel surface for extra energy. For electric engines and energy storage, there is lots of space under the rear deck. The boat structure allows the usage of multiple energy sources. I believe this kind of concept could be easily built today for day cruising and chartering use. This has lots of customizable properties and possibility for clean and quite use.

Sustainability is the future
“Esthec is the one!”
The youth are not only the future, they are busy shaping it every single day. Students and starting entrepreneurs around the globe are thinking seriously about sustainability and the environment. About alternatives. Why, for instance, should we use fossil products, if there are high-quality or better alternatives available? Esthec is a prime example of such an alternative.
As a high-quality replacement for teak, Esthec contributes to a better environment. After all, sustainability is the future. Young designers increasingly choose green, sustainable products and this is reflected in their designs. In the Finnish design competition ‘Visions of Future Boating’, which attracted entries from students and designers all over the world, a boat design with an Esthec deck was awarded a place in the top 10.
Janne Leppänen used Esthec in the design of his A50 Open Deck Catamaran. He did not have to think long about his choice of decking material. The ecological aspect of Esthec and the possibilities in terms of design were a perfect match for what Leppänen had in mind. In his A50 Open Deck Catamaran, he laid emphasis on ecologically sound materials and green technology. The features of the model include solar cells for extra energy and fully electric motors.
The Esthec deck gives the Catamaran designed by Janne Leppänen an even smarter and more futuristic look. The promising young designer is very enthusiastic about Esthec:
"It is hard to make something new that somebody has not already done yet, but Esthec has! They have created something really great, something that will shape how our boats are going to look and feel like in the near future. Creating a whole new material is difficult, but even more difficult is to find a profitable business for it. I´m glad they did, because material that can replace teak is a good thing. With limitless customization properties, excellent efficiency and better features than teak, Esthec is the one!"
There is no doubt in Janne Leppänen’s mind that Esthec is the material of the future. More than that, Esthec is the one!
