Puppet Mechanism Project

Phase I:
Mechanism ideation and prototyping. As a team we each came up with mechanism designs and began to figure out how we could arrange them to create a captivating final motion. The top sketch became the idea that the project revolved around, an offset circle that triggered multiple levels as it rotated.
Phase II:
Project direction, with our general mechanism design tuned in we were able to start to iterate what our final product could achieve. We settled on replicating aspects of traditional Indonesian puppetry for our end result. Both motifs and traditional puppet-form was used as inspiration.

Phase III:
Mechanism refinement and the beginning of the build for our final piece. All gears were laser cut with illustrator designed patterns, central rotating tower was built in Solidworks then 3D printed.
Phase IV:
Final Design. After laser cutting the puppets we backed them with acetate so the light shining through would be colored.
