USABL for Young Players in Tri-state

Former baseball player and NJ resident Darren Stumberger was named player of the year in the state of Florida in 1993 while he was attending the University of South Florida. In recent years, Darren Stumberger has volunteered as a baseball coach in the tri-state (NY, NJ, CT) area, working with around 1,500 young players between the ages of seven and 15 years old. The United States Amateur Baseball League is one of the organizations in the tri-state offering baseball competition to children as young as seven and as old as 18.

The United States Amateur Baseball League began operating in 1986. Young players who join a team in the league get the opportunity to travel to take on competing teams in the area. Depending on their age group and location, teams compete in a series of games during fall, spring, or summer seasons. Games are played on a series of fields around New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania.

The teams with the youngest participants play the shortest games at only about three to four innings. Once players reach the age of eight, they begin playing longer games with six-to-nine innings. During each season, teams will compete in seven-to-10 games total, with the possibility of moving onto playoff competition. The most successful teams can move onto the United States Amateur Baseball League world series.

To earn placement in the world series championship, teams must win in world series qualifier games throughout the summer season. The world series game takes place at the end of July.
