'Perch'

FSC certified Cork, Ash, Birch plywood.

In October 2017a collaborative brief was sponsored by Verco Design London, architects Perkins & Will and interior design firm Collaborate. It centred around themes of circular economy and environmental well-being in the workplace.

I wanted to explore the soft, pliability of cork as a material. soaking the furniture grade cork and vacuum/heat forming it over a mold I was able to achieve this lightweight/strong form.

'Perch' evolved from research into the satisfaction derived from interacting with everyday objects, replacing cold textures with warm and introducing elements of nostalgia and fun into furniture functionality.

'Perch' loosely resembles a gym horse used for gymnastics and balance, when you sit on the bench you engage with it. Straightening your back and engaging your core muscles.
