International laboratories have been using the Genetic Ancestry Exam for some time, but this type of technology has only recently arrived in Brazil, helping people of different ethnicities trace a trajectory of their ancestors. The genealogical tree of European families is more easily deciphered, through research and documents, but the history of slavery made the exam a single possibility for black people to find their origins. The results, though, can be surprising to anyone, for it may escape the race narratives as we know them.
