Ideas in Interactive Media - Week 1
Start a ‘Make Something 365’ project - document what you make for each of the seven days this week.
-The main point of this activity was to get into the habit of designing and making things. Practice makes perfect
The theme that I chose for this task was flowers, my main reasoning for this choice is that I have a personal joy found in floral subjects whether it be in art or in live specimens.
My initial approach to this assessment was to brainstorm a list of different mediums that could be used to make flowers, from paint to drawing, sewing and even photography, whilst not all of these ideas made it to the final product they could very well be useful for future projects.
A semi traditional approach of drawing a rose, but playing with the drawing medium which was a water based marker.
As a first year BCIM student I am new to using different programs for creative purposes, this was drawn using Adobe Illustrator while trying to learn about different features and tools available within the software.
Trying to use more physically available mediums I created this flower by sewing the ribbon with a straight running stitch, gathered the thread and wound the coil, securing it with a few more stitches in place to create the final product.
This picture was done using acrylic paints on a canvas. This was quite enjoyable to sit and create after not having used paints in quite a long while.
Funnily enough the idea for this image was brought upon by the thought of food, and the contemporary styling of deconstructed meals so here we have a deconstructed flower
Whilst brainstorming for this project I knew I wanted to do something using a lot of small objects, so the idea came to me as someone who greatly enjoys sewing and always has a lot of supplies lying around buttons could work really well to make the shape of a flower, while also using the yellow tape measure for the centre to give it an extra flare.
The image of the flower is creates by using twine and small sewing pins to attach it to a felt message board, the idea for this came from thinking of single stroke drawings and how intricate they can be, plus also the confidence that i feel is needed to draw those type of images
Over all this assignment definitely had me thinking and thinking, trying to get out of the figurative box and think differently from the usual standard, it has also given me the chance to consider one day hopefully attempting to do my own "Project365"
