THIRD PLACE
Progetto svolto in Accademia nel 2019.
Il brief richiedeva la progettazione di cover (digipack) e booklet alternativi per l'album "Bon Iver, Bon Iver" del gruppo indie folk Bon Iver. Alla base vi era il tema "struttura", filo conduttore dell'intero progetto.
Il Concept si ispira al bosco, e ai giochi di luce ed ombre che filtrano vibranti attraverso le foglie degli alberi.
Ho voluto ricreare le atmosfere magiche ed intime di questo album attraverso frammenti di specchi che andassero a riflettere, frantumare ed esaltare l'immagine derivante dal contrasto della luce, pura e bianca del cielo, e dal nero buio del sottobosco. Sulla superficie specchiante, si è andato così a delineare un "terzo luogo": non è il bosco, e nemmeno il cielo. È quel luogo notturno, intimo, astratto, surreale e mistico, a tratti avvolto da una nebbia inquietante, nel quale ho collocato la mia personale visione delle poliedriche musiche di Justin Vernon.

Concept inspired by woods and the games of light and shadows through the leaves.
I've tried to recreate the magical and intimate atmospheres of this album by using fragments of mirrors that reflect, shatter and emphasize the contrast between the white sky and the black undergrowth.

I've tried to recreate the magical and intimate atmospheres of this album by using fragments of mirrors that reflect, shatter and emphasize the contrast between the white sky and the black undergrowth.
This is how a third place emerged on the mirroring surface: it isn't the forest, nor the sky. It's that nocturnal, intimate, abstract, surreal and mystical place, sometimes wrapped in a haunting fog, in which I placed my personal vision of the multifaceted music of Justin Vernon.
Per ogni canzone dell'album è stata studiata una specifica composizione di frammenti specchianti, così come una precisa immagine riflessa, entrambe suggerite dall'ascolto di ogni singolo brano. Non si tratta di una struttura stabile, bensì mutevole: in continuo cambiamento, segue, con le sue forme, il mutare delle musiche dei Bon Iver.
A specific composition of mirror fragments was studied for each song of the album, as well as a precise reflected image on the mirroring surface, both suggested by listening to each single song. This isn't a stable structure, but a mutable one: in constant change, it follows, with its shapes, the changing of Bon Iver's Music.
Le fotografie scattate, post-editate così da accentuare il contrasto tra luce e ombra, sono state successivamente utilizzate per realizzare le grafiche all'interno del booklet, affiancate dal testo delle canzoni corrispondenti.
The photographs taken, post-edited to stress the contrast between light and shadow, were used to create the graphics inside the booklet, side by side the text of the corresponding songs.
