Conceptual art:
The definition of conceptual art I find quite clear and easy to understand is:
Art based on ideas.
Art based on ideas.
Even when sometimes a conceptual artwork starts as a concept alone, and then a complementary idea reinforces it; it's the concept or meaning what's dominating the scene, it's over beauty, media or anything else you can think of that can be attributed to a work of art...
Ideas, Concepts, Meaning: Communication and Art!
What I like the most about conceptual art is the fact that there's definitely communication between artist and viewer...
Conceptual art isn't relying mainly on emotions, but on meaning or ideas...so even when you don't quite grasp what the heck the artist was trying to represent or makes you feel like...like nothing, there's still some communication!
You see, even in that case, you stop and for a split of a second you wonder, you try hard to get the meaning, to grasp the concept...and maybe you don't succeed, but you still got to "listen" as carefully as you possibly could...isn't that right? =)
And when you understand the concept, you may disagree as well, and that's communication too!
