Professor Studies the Financial Impact of Eviction

A member of the CFA Institute, Warren Lammert is a Boston, Massachusetts-based investment professional who draws upon more than 35 years of experience to serve as the CEO and chief investment officer at Granite Point Capital. Prior to entering the finance sector, Warren Lammert graduated from Yale University, where he received a bachelor’s degree in economics.

Recently, Yale economics professor John Eric Humphries conducted a study with several other researchers that focused on the financial impact of eviction on US households. The researchers found that people forced to go to eviction court have already experienced years of financial distress. According to the study, eviction results in only a slight increase in financial strain. While people who have been evicted usually possess lower credit scores and accumulate a little more debt, the effects seem minor as compared to the financial strain faced by tenants prior to an eviction filing.

The study’s findings could lead to the development of policies designed to reduce financial hardships for people who are at risk of eviction. Based on the results of the study, early intervention could prove the most effective way to help to alleviate the financial stress that these tenants face.
