Harmony is a series of 5 paintings which I made for a school project in 2018, this series shows peaceful and mystical scenes of marine life in harmony with their environment. All the pieces are connected through their focus on the aquatic flora and fauna, vibrant colour scheme as well as all have a illusion of movement as the creatures seem to be moving out of the white borders. I created these pieces using watercolour, ink, pens on watercolour paper and added some acetate plastic for embellishments. The dimensions of each triangle are 20cm x 23cm (height x base width).
I was wondering about how humans have not explored the deepest parts of the ocean and depicted my imagination of vibrant pink crystals and glowing jellyfish swimming around in the darkness.
This scene involves a group of sharks swimming together, usually seeing a group of sharks circling around creates a sense of fear but I wanted to convey a sense of peace through the monochromatic colour palette and show movement of the sharks as they head to the light.
I created this giant multi coloured jellyfish which is floating elegantly through the tree-like plants underwater, there is a sense of movement in this piece as the jellyfish has passed out of the white border as well as the edge of the paper as if it is going to swim off the paper.
This is a school of vibrant fish flowing through the water, resembling a stream. I think this piece connects to the title the most as I am often interested with how harmonious schools of fish are as they move smoothly around obstacles as they are one.
Rather than being underwater like the other pieces, this perspective is from above the water as there are lily pads on the surface. This scene is inspired by koi fish in the koi ponds which I see quite often and koi fish have many symbolisms as well as represent love and friendship.
