The Kids at the Rafael Trejo boxing gym

Glances, gestures, poses - the serie "Havana Fight Club" shows both natural childlike uncertainty and apparent pugnacious determination.
It came into life at the "Rafael Trejo Boxing Gym" being the oldest boxing club of Cuba, named after a revolutionist shot dead in 1930.

We can see different rituals like wrapping hands into boxing bandages, cooling down after the fight and light footed skipping across the ring. The playful use of light and shadow deepens the scenes and adds another facette to it, thus producing an atmosphere that is likewise pictorial and disturbing at the same time.

The kids we can see range in age of 8 to 11 and come from the so called "Combinados Deportivos" - government sponsored sporting centers.
Some of them are part of a selection of talents, some just want to emulate their fathers and brothers.
