The renovation project of this site in São Paulo aimed to create a delightful garden for the grandkids of a couple living nearby, and also to create pleasant workplaces for both of them. Old external floors and construction were eliminated and new ones were build to better serve the needs of the clients: a wide floor for tai chi chuan practice (that partially avails a preexisting floor); another one to shelter a work table (with a roof, proper lighting and wall sockets) and another one for the kids to play in, with a water and a sand pond, a wooden deck and an outdoor shower. The changes in masonry concentrated in the building in the back of the terrain, previously used as a garage and transformed into an art studio. To bring as much as daylight in, a large window facing the kid’s area and two linear skylights, from the front to the back of the space, were built. Beneath the studio’s new window a bench was created, both in the inside and outside, inviting people to who’s in to come out and vice versa. The working gazebo structure and the tree trunk that holds the outdoor shower are made with garapeira wood, and the bench beneath the studio’s large window and the deck are made with cumaru wood. The tree trunk was specially carved to receive the outdoor shower’s plumbing, so it would be in the middle of the garden, and not on a wall surface, as it usually is located. All external floors are planished cemented floors with saw joints and received hydraulic tiles for decoration. Shards of goiás stone paths connects the floors otherwise separated by grass and the garden itself. Beneath the shower and next to the gazebo, the shards are mixed with red gravel chips. Read Less
