The original schematic
The setup: a thin plastic membrane is stretched tightly over the top of a wooden frame. A "Rock-It" vibration speaker is attached to the underside of this membrane, and generates sine wave impulses which cause cymatic disturbances in a thin layer of water suspended on the plastic membrane. These impulses are then captured via an HD camera equipped with a macro lens.
