The Joker (A Conceptual Screenplay)

Joker Screenplay
This book was a result of a semester long dive into the fundamentals and nuances of typography. The requirements were to set a book with the content of an existing screenplay - I chose the Joker, released in 2019, because of the impact it had on me. I wasn't aware a movie could be raw and pure, yet still be able to captivate an entire audience filled with different generations.

I wanted to pay homage to the movie, the DC origin and the dystopian nature of the film. I drafted my color palette from my favorite 'protagonist' frame - carefully selecting the colors that would capture the dark nature of Todd Phillip and Scott Silver's vision.

Initially, I started off with trying to find nuances in the script and the word 'beat' became apparent. Converting that into a disrupting element, my next task was to create a system that word could disrupt. Thinking about the movie, I created a grid where I could push Joker's dialogues into another column to represent his disconnect from society and present events. As I explored further, I was eventually able to create a full fledged system, including the tabs in the corners that highlighted the importance of the word 'beat'.

Excerpts of the final submission are shown below, the first being the cover of the book:
