New Adventures of Alice

“New Adventures of Alice”
A series of illustrations based on the Lewis Carrol/ Alice in Wonderland inspired novel “New Adventures of Alice”
written by John Rae in 1917.
Ink and watercolor, each 9 x 7 inches.
As Alice pursues the Snipe, she discovers a narrow spiral staircase winding up around the trunk of an old oak tree.
Hovering above the village green, Alice and the Snipe see a maypole, all decked out with flowers and streamers. She clutches at it to stop her flight, and swings round and round, petals from the blossom wreaths floating down around her.
Alice finds herself floating in a tub with the Butcher, the Baker, and the Candlestick Maker...and the Milkman. The Baker has tried to rig up a sail by tying his apron to a long French loaf, and the Butcher is paddling as best he can with a meat cleaver.
Alice and the Candlestick Maker are wrecked at the shore, the tub having fallen apart due to the Candlestick Maker’s drumming and dancing. A postman fish arrives with a parcel for Alice, containing a collection of red cards which she must decode. In the clear water below, she notices several goldfish having a race.
