The Human Condition

To live and function as a human in society is an extremely complex challenge. The world around us may at times be brutal and unjust and people will, at some time in their lives, experience this. These encounters can leave traces and become a part of what forms us, our views and our behaviour. The link between mind and body, psyche and physical body, mental and physical health is well established. As such one might expect some of these traces of our experiences to render an outward visible impression on our bodies and in our faces. Specifically and photographically this project investigates the inner vs the outward person and how we judge a person based on what we see before us.

The portraits of the participants in the project are presented in a typographical style with a short handwritten text. the The text was selected and written by the subjects themselves and represents a thought or statement they had in connection with the project.
One has it best when one is kind
Play live and learn
His fathers boy
Drinking the eternal life in Jesus..daily intimacy in the triune God
My life alone is of no value
My life with others has the greatest value
Son, father and boy
I am never alone
The greatest challenge in life is to be in the present when it happens
This is how I look
I am good enough as I am
It could have been different
Live your dreams
