I see lots of Amazon vans crawling along my Seattle street. The delivery vans are so ubiquitous, I thought they’d make a humorous looping gif.
Most of the work here was done in Adobe Illustrator. After separating the Ai file into layers, I imported into Adobe After Effects and animated.
While drawing my suburban setting, the song Pleasant Valley Sunday played over and over in my head. Pleasant Valley Sunday was a sixties hit for The Monkees. Written by Gerry Goffin and Carole King, the lyrics were a social commentary on status symbols, creature comforts, life in suburbia and “keeping up with the Joneses”.
My favorite line, “And Mr. Green, he’s so serene, he’s got a TV in every room”. Maybe that’s what’s in those gigantic Amazon boxes, a TV for every room! – Joe Gast
