Allegory of Memory

Allegory of Memory
2012
Memory is our true self, that instant of time outside of time, where, far from any project, we are thrown into the search for the unknown that always escapes us, we are thrown into the search for the unknown that always flees from us.
GEORGES BATAILLE
Light, like shadow, deeply accompanies our memory. It is in a focus, where objects, people and ourselves shine from within. It stands at a bifurcation between the distant and the near, between what is and what is not. Our senses are sharpened in the journey through memory, but many times we separate ourselves from the contexts of life and thus, at the same time, we destroy and conserve.

Allegory clings to ruin, to a past history that it tries to recall. It is one of the most natural forms of poetry, letting melancholy illuminate the meaning of things. In the destructive rage, allegory engages in the expulsion of appearance, one that arises from all given order, making shadows appear. If it is fantasy that brings the correspondence of memory, it is thought that offers allegory. Thus memories bring together the fantasy of thought. The thinking of dreams remains under the sign of memory.

This photographic project, conceived from the beginning as a visual poetry book, also serves as a tribute to German expressionism, showing in the shadows a subjective reality, deformed and capricious, where feelings impose themselves on forms.

Thanks!
