We were lucky to have the opportunity to work with the Vancouver International Film Festival for another year, developing a marketing campaign for 2019 that builds upon the look and feel established during the 2018 festival season.
This concept aims to capture the atmospheric elements of film where light and sound work together to create an experience that draws you in and immerses you in the stories being told on screen. These qualities can make for an ethereal experience, one in which the audience is actively and continuously participating in completing the story being told by way of their participation in watching the story unfold. We applied this thinking to the graphic treatment of the campaign, obscuring the "V" icon within the light featured on the poster, making the audience's mind work a little bit in filling in those gaps. This graphic treatment was translated across several mediums, including print, motion, and digital.
During this process, we also worked with VIFF’s leadership team, internal design team, and motion graphics / video production house (Post Pro Media) to ensure that the campaign look and feel was appropriately translated into various media and formats.
