Purdilnagar bead and bangle making
The aim of this project is to sustain and develop livelihood opportunity for the Purdilnagar cluster of bead artisans in the testing times. The Glass Bead unorganized micro and small scale industry is one of the important cluster of artisans, not just from the view of employment generation but also revenue generation. Looking into this present scenario this project will enable to bring in a competitive edge through Design intervention, considering the existing skills and infrastructure of this sector. The project will also look at integrating indigenous technology or transfer of technology from allied industries to bring variations in form, surface and finishes. The project is sponsored by Development of Science and Technology and handled by National Institute of design.

For their development we visit clusters, organise workshops and participate in the exhibitions. Workshops are offered at NID, Ahmedabad or in Purdilnagar. At NID, craftsmen from Purdilnagar have been invited and they get exposure towards design environment and new markets. The objective of offering workshops at Purdilnagar is to disseminate the outcome to larger number of artisans. It also helps to reach out to them within their work environment.

Looking at the markets and users, skill levels and mindsets of the artisans we design new products. We train them and encourage them to take it forward and bring the new design for exhibitions.
