Are they boring, bourgeois or daring? Or everything at the same time?
The project »Hinter der Tapete« is about the wallpapers of the DDR. Why did the citizens chose to live in a chaos of patterns? Did they chose it at all? This book deals with these questions and explains economics and everyday life in DDR. It gives insight into the wallpaper industry and how the state controlled certain aspects of interior and life. The book contains old analog photographs, a photographic documentation of interior design and painting tools, pages of the DDR magazine »kultur im heim«, and nine original wallpapers.
The wallpapers come with a special feel and smell, so they contrast with the printed pages.
