Born in Anadia, Dino Alves graduated in Painting at the Escola Superior Artística do Porto. He takes a professional photography course at INEF and after a stint at the Cinemateca Portuguesa, he ends up going into the fashion area, winning the title "Enfant-terrible da Moda Portuguesa".

Nowadays, he is the head designer for Ricardo Preto exclusively for Rustan's and U by Ricardo Preto for Rustan's, designing both Women and Menswear collections, as well as shoes and accessories, now available in the asian market.
