As 2020 begins, there are many highly anticipated new books on the horizon. Here are three of the most eagerly awaited nonfiction titles.

1. “Humble Pi: When Math Goes Wrong in the Real World,” by Matt Parker. Released at the end of January, this book describes times when math errors have had real life consequences, such as a misplaced decimal point upending the stock market or a unit conversion error resulting in a plane's malfunction.

2. “American Sherlock: Murder, Forensics, and the Birth of American CSI,” by Kate Winkler Dawson. This book is especially suited for true crime fans, as it covers Edward Oscar Heinrich, one of the first forensic scientists in the United States. Heinrich was the first to develop numerous forensic tools, including blood spatter analysis and the use of fingerprints as evidence.

3. “The Splendid and the Vile,” by Erik Larson. Widely known for his bestselling “The Devil in the White City,” this new book by Larson is a portrait of Winston Churchill and London during the Blitz, the bombing attack conducted by the Germans from September 1940 through May 1941.
