The UP Football Field and Stadium projects are initiatives by the University of the Philippines System to upgrade the sporting facilities in the Diliman campus to competition ready amenities with the goal of better servicing the UP community and beyond. The project was conceptualized in the late 2000s and finally started to materialize in 2015 with funding of around PHP 70,125,000 channeled to creating infrastructure. It is part of an ongoing overhaul of the College of Human Kinetics’ facilities into the new UP Sports Complex. The roughly 2,000 sqm football field and stadium development is the first of a foreseen multi-stage project around the UP Diliman track oval. Once the site of the original field and grandstand, the area has been updated to hold a synthetic turf football field duly accredited by the Federation Internationale de Football Association, a rubberized track, and a viewing stand with new amenities that gives the university the capacity to host games with pride. The grandstand is intended to be the first of a series of construction projects to be built around the field, eventually forming the stadium that was initially imagined.
