The message of this project is about getting rid of the functionality concepts of things, then trying to see new things in the abstracted ready made forms around us.
I believe that design can change the world through the relationships between it’s various disciplines. And such relations can not be discovered as long as we cover every object around us with functionality. So to see these multidisciplinary relations, we first have to free our selves of our ready-concepts of things. Which is why I think that the abstraction mentality is key in this process.
The path I followed in this project consists of three elements. First, a real life object “The Table”. Second, a stage in which I see this element regardless of its function. I abstract it down to shapes, surfaces, lines, and dots. And this is when the typeface was created, not to forget that glyphs are abstracted elements as Wolfgang Weingart once introduced them. Now that I have my font ready, I just use my imagination again to create three dimensional industrial objects out of these two dimensional glyphs. And who knows, maybe this series of transformations does not stop here!.
Every kid imagines shapes in the clouds. Well, I do the very same thing. But, with real life objects.
