Dordogne, France
The project is conceived as a concrete monolith between the woods along the Dronne River.
The idea is to carve this monolith as a quarry. The remainder, is a designed negative space that incorporates the programme: Refuge+ Storage+Workshop+ Meditation space. It’s perforated in both vertical and horizontal directions in order to achieve a visual and spatial integration with the forest.
The combination of lights and shades, open and closed spaces, columns following the rhythm of the trees plus the noble ageing of the concrete make it camouflage within the surrounding landscape. On the other hand, the qualities of the chosen materiality allows to reduce the construction stages and the environmental impact.
