Custom Controllers

Hello! Welcome to Palette Customs!

I'm Jeffrey, owner of Palette Customs. As a kid, I always loved to customize. The attractiveness of making something unique to oneself subconsciously drove me into being a creative. I would build model kits, modify my electronic devices, spend hours creating MMO characters, etc.

As I grew older, I'd delve into more projects, but find failure through most of them. For instance, in high school I wanted to be the only kid with an LED 3DS — a project in which I ended up scrapping because of a fried motherboard.

For years, I didn't have a lot of places to fulfill my creative needs. Then, in 2015, I entered my first Super Smash Bros. tournament. I fell in love with the scene, having made many friends, while finding myself decent at the game. I began to notice my love for the controllers used to play Smash and realized a fair amount of customization was happening in the scene. As a result, in 2017, I gave myself a shot into painting and creating my first controller. The project was a success and set up a newfound confidence in my creative abilities.

It was slow up until 2019, where I decided to start doing functional and electrical modifications to controllers. To my surprise, I ended up being successful to that end as well (fried 3DS in mind). With my newfound knowledge, I began constructing full controllers, which caught people's attention. I had started with one customer, whose satisfaction spread to their peers. As I started creating more projects, my connections would increase more and more. Custom controllers were starting to become more than a creative hobby — it was also a job.

As of Fall 2022, I've painted and designed over hundreds of things. While Nintendo Gamecube Controllers are my specialty, I have also tried my hand at Nintendo Pro Controllers, Joycons, Switches, and more. There are also a large amount of controllers I've done pure modification work or repairs to, which have only added to the amount of controllers I've had in my hands.

This road has been fun, but also exhausting at times. In the end, I'm legitimately happy and thankful with what I do. I emphasize this part the most as a creative -- I work for the love and passion of the talent that I've been blessed to have.
