All second year students in the design school of Central Saint Martins participate in a 4-week long workshop called "Bigger Picture". Over the course of the month we heard various lectures on a broad range of subjects: political awareness, sustainability, business, and much more. We would then reflect on these topics in smaller groups.
Each group was expected to shape a query that it was genuinely interested in, and to do sufficient research to form a response. Our group asked, "Can design be altruistic?" This question functioned as the prompt for a series of interviews, a pamphlet, a short film, and a 2000 word essay. The essay, I decided, should be formatted to look like an exhibition magazine.
