balbek bureau workshop was commissioned by a Ukrainian celebrity couple to design their 150-sq.m guest house. By the time balbek bureau undertook the commission, the architectural model of the house had been already defined, so the main focus of the project was its interior design. In close collaboration with the owners, the workshop, which is famous for its affection for minimalism, created a serene interior where references to classic and retro styles are mixed in with contemporary elements, all serving as a harmonious backdrop for quiet times with family and friends.

The entrance hall on the ground floor leads to a bright and spacious living room. Next door is a stylish wooden sauna and a hot tub. Smooth transition between functional areas was achieved by keeping the number of partitions to a minimum, by using the same colour of the walls and warm honey-coloured wooden floor throughout the entire space, to hold it together.
A wooden console table and a sideboard, a massive ceiling lamp stylised as a medieval candleholder, a vintage piano used by the owner as a child and a fireplace create a faint sense of nostalgia for the times gone by. Soft fibres of ethnic carpet and smooth coolness of the massive sofa; the delicacy of dried flowers and folk crudeness of earthenware vases create a contrasting combination emphasized by the overall lavish décor punctuated by minimalistic art.
Mezzanine level has two bedrooms, a walk-in closet with a makeup room and a bathroom. The entrances to the rooms from the hall are geometrically highlighted by the dark green walls and doors.
If master bedroom is finished in classic style according to the tastes of the owners, the guest bedroom is more of a Scandinavian. It is bright, spacious, and finished in natural materials. Bed cover and a carpet add warmth and cosiness. Several tones of pastel rose and white as were used to decorate this room.
Architectural peculiarity is a sloping ceiling that was emphasized by a ‘dollhouse’ – a gypsum plasterboard structure with in-built storage spaces. A metal frame bed has become a focal point, which visually makes it easier and adds space to the room.

Most of soft and modular furniture including steps to the second level was made by Ukrainian subcontractors according to balbek bureau specifications.
