Data Diode Used As A Unidirectional Gateway 



Introduction:
A data diode is a unidirectional security gateway or network. It is also called as a hardware device that allows the data to transfer in only one direction to guarantee information security. It is a one way communication for data transfer in more secure environment to prevent hackers attack. The basic purpose to use the data diodes to ensures the data integrity and confidentiality in critical situations.

Data diode are designed to protect highly sensitive data in industries like Military and Aerospace, nuclear power plants, to send the highly authorized information to security agencies and other critical infrastructure. The main thing that data diode follows is that it will be more secure to any other software system because it is a hardware device attached with a network. Information only move in forward direction and never move in the reverse cycle.

How Data Diode Works?
Data diode are small hardware device or security gateway sits between two networks. It is placed in between the highly secured critical network and the open network. It is used in between two networks to pass the sensitive and crucial information to ensure the data uniqueness. Data diodes works in one way, it sends information in one direction only and the information never sends back to the first destination from where it received ( this will happen only due the usage of fiber optical connection which prevents the data to move in the opposite direction).

The placement of data diodes in the network is especially for sensitive data transfer which requires internet connectivity. In case of an unprotected data would be vulnerable to intrusions from internet, but by using unidirectional network setup which separates the high side with crucial data and a low side with internet connectivity, the high side can access the internet without exposing the security breach.

Once implemented, a data diode cannot be changed in any way. When a diode is breached, all physical channels for transmission are shut down.
