  One of the concerning topics of this era is the design of sustainable spaces. Being one of the important spaces that children are in contact everyday and can play freely, schoolyards are significant spaces to be considered for new urban design. In my thesis, I focused on sustainable methods of designing a convenient schoolyard for children. The main concept was to research about how to design a sustainable schoolyard that provides the needs of children while provides them an educational atmosphere. Additionally cultural features and elements was one of my concerns. Designing spaces that stimulates children to learn, experience, explore and learn was developed by various spaces that were combined with natural and cultural elements. Through this project I was able to support my concepts with the results of a survey from children of 8 schools in Tehran. The results supported the lack and need of variety in schoolyards for children which I was intended to evolve in spaces.
I focused on designing special seating and gathering places for teachers and neighborhood to develop a sense of belonging and being special. Creating different activity and moving opportunities for the physical and cognitive development of different children was a main issue to consider was also one of my concerns. My other point of consideration was stabilizing landscape elements that support natural features and ecosystems using various domestic planting types, rocks and safe lakes. The Utilizing of tree shades over impermeable paving surfaces would also reduce light reflection. For conveying a cultural learning environment I also used structures inspired by Persian architecture (Chartaghy) as focal points for view and gathering.
