This is a calligraphy project inspired by the great calligraphist Denise Lach. She has a book called Schriftspiele where she use photography of different textures as inspiration to create different textures using letters and calligraphy. Her work is brilliant and it really inspired me to try something similar. I used my own photos that I already had in my library, from an already existing obsession with textures, and chose three different ones that I felt would be possible to recreate, but also pose as a challenge.
This project is a result of a calligraphy class we had at university (NTNU) in 2019 with calligrapher and designer Helene Jenssen.
