Located in the iconic Adelphi Hotel, famous for its rooftop pool deck that hangs over Melbourne’s Flinders Lane, is fine-dining dessert bar Om Nom, ‘the heart of the world’s first dessert hotel’. Fusing desserts with decor, the restaurants interior takes on a luxe candy wrapper aesthetic with rich colours, shiny gold accents and foyer seating that resembles liquorice all-sorts. Designed by Joanne Ward, the dessert menu gives a playful nod to childhood whimsy and nostalgia with high-end fantasy desserts that almost look too good to eat. Unique creations like the ‘Sticks and Stones’ dessert feature ingredients from chocolate bark and crunchy chocolate twigs to edible chocolate soil. To highlight the theatrical side of the menu, which often includes smoke and nitrogen, we incorporated a video with subtle smoke effects behind the home page that auto-plays as users scroll. And given the ‘instagram-able’ nature of the venue, it’s desserts and equally creative cocktails, a social media aggregation platform was integrated, allowing the restaurant to streamline and curate their social channels, while also reacting and responding to customers in real-time. The Om Nom site formed one half of the overarching Adelphi Hotel project, with each site designed to compliment the other while maintaining their unique brand identities – view the Adelphi Hotel project here.
