INSPIRED BY THE WORKS OF GJON MILLI (STROBOSCOPIC PHOTOGRAPHY)

When I heard we were going to work based on the theme of fragments, I immediately thought of looking at different artist to look for ideas and inspiration. That’s when I found photographer Gjon Mili and his work on stroboscopic photography. I was truly invested in this idea and wanted to spend my time trying this style of photography. I set out to research what I needed to know to execute this project. To study stroboscopic photography, one has to study the father of this style; Harold Edgerton. He was one of the first who started to use this technique of using flashing lights at the right time to create a very different scene than what one would normally see in photography. What he explored at this time was more meaningful and more interesting as he used new technology to create revolutionary photographs that changed the photography world. This affected the photography world as he was able to capture a passage of time in  a single image when before this photographers were to limited to capturing frozen moments. The strobe light ability to create optical illusions enables people to see images that occur too fast for the human eye.
