MDRT Study Says Human Advisors Still Preferred

An experienced retirement planner working out of San Diego, California, Brian Gibbs serves as president and CEO of Heritage Retirement Advisors. Working with San Diego clients since 2005, Brian Gibbs augments his knowledge and stays abreast of current trends in the financial sector through membership in various professional organizations, including the Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT).

In early 2019, MDRT and The Harris Poll partnered to create an online survey on how financial services clients view the use of technology in the sector. The poll was conducted in November 2018 and garnered the feedback of more than 2,000 adults nationwide--more than a third of whom already have a working relationship with a financial advisor. The poll results show that, no matter whether or not a person works directly with a financial advisor, an overwhelming majority of Americans believe that advisors should be well-versed in technology (95 percent) and implement technology in their work (96 percent).

More importantly, upwards of 88 percent of respondents say that technology should work alongside an advisor rather than serve as a replacement. This shows that they believe the human element is still important. Only 36 percent of respondents say that they would strongly trust an AI advisor to oversee their financial plans, whereas 83 percent say they prefer to strongly trust a human advisor.
