Socrates as a villain of The Clouds
Around August 2019, I was working on an animated short for a publishing house - Nowa Era.
The purpose of the project was to interest a high school student with an animated commentary to Aristophanes comedy The Clouds.
Client sent me a script and a layout of opening and ending screen, with typography of the series.
Direction and art direction, development and animation with final editing was my task.
Being inspired by the great TEDed videos, I've proposed a general direction. I decided to choose a character driven, limited, hand-drawn animation.
As always in development phase I started to draw on the paper and then, I've moved to digital. Adobe Photoshop, After Effects and Toon Boom Harmony were the tools I've used.
FIRST STYLE FRAME FOR THE PROJECT
Being inspired mostly by the visual language of UPA Studio, I told the story using a cartoon style. My fascination with them might echoing in the way I stylized the world and characters.
From the very beginning working with Nowa Era was pretty clear and we were communicating well. Exchanging thoughts, consulting every stage of production was motivating and fruitful.
We are still working together. This kind of productions give me hope for next interesting projects with Nowa Era, as well as another studios around the world.
It also enriches my portfolio with projects I like to present to potential client and other creators.
