Jelly 'ARTEFACT'. Future of Food for the TESCO. 2017

Jelly Artefact - speculative design project for Future of Food raport, prepared by infuture hatalska foresight institute, specially made for TESCO.

What will food look like in the future?
‘Future of Food’ is a cooperation of two different scientific and research centres with the business. The project was initiated by Natalia Hatalska, founder of the infuture institute who organised a speculative design project in cooperation with the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdansk. Based on food, cultural, social and environmental trend, I accepted a challenge of designing food of the future. The assumption of the competition was for each project to be substantially set in reality while the visionary concept to have scientific bases. The final is composed of a display of competition works as well as a report entitled ‘Future of Food’, report prepared by infuture hatalska foresight institute, where Tesco is the strategic partner.

The project was consulted with microbiologist, Adam Ossowicki from the Netherlands Institute of Ecology (NIOO-KNAW).
Scientists have predicted that in 2050 the average intake per person will be as much as 3130 calories. This will be caused by the rising consumption of two  ingredients: meat and sugar. The reason for this is not any real need of the human body but psychological needs for interaction with food, the need to experience it. The project is attempt to create a new ritual, a substitute for addictive substances. Not only healthier, but also providing a stronger experience.
