For this unit we have been tasked with creating and publishing a magazine. We will be given different templates and will be required to fill these with necessary photos and text. This unit will test our skills over a variety of areas and will require us to do some research in our own time in order to use the software effectively and efficiently.

For my research i looked at classic skateboarding magazines such as Thrasher, Transworld, SKATEBOARD!,Action Now, and Lapper. i specifically looked at some of the longest running ones as i wanted to see exactly what it took for a skate magazine to be successful. In terms of color schemes, a lot of the magazines i looked at stuck to a fairly dark theme, with blocky fonts that are easy recognizable.
An example of this is the classic Banco font famously used by Thrasher. It stands out a mile away and is easily distinguishable as being thrasher.
The front covers of these magazines usually action shots taken midway of a skater doing an extremely difficult trick. I also noticed that the head of the person doing said trick on the front of the magazines was usually aligned with the name of the company.
When it came to looking at how pictures were placed alongside text, i found that one thing i really liked was the use of placing four of five pictures all taken simultaneously of a trick being done, showing you in stages how the skater does this trick. Often times a whole page was used to show a wide angle shot of a trick, to show the true size of some of the ramps they are riding on.
What i plan to do:
I plan to create a magazine with themes inspired from skateboard magazines like the ones i have researched, as well as themes from some fashion magazines. Some of the magazine will have photos of skaters, tricks being done and some shots of whats to offer in London in terms of skating. And some of the magazine will be fashion based, looking into whats popular in the world of skating right now.
How i plan to shoot/edit.
I have made friends through skating so i have a few people who can be models for me and can do the necessary tricks to get the awesome photos i need. I am planning with them now so we can arrange a date to begin brainstorming ideas so i can begin shooting as soon as possible. Another friend of mine is a hoarder who is addicted to shopping so i have plenty of material for clothing. Luckily enough he also skates so it will fit hand in hand.
