Operation Black Buck (updated)

A visual documentation of Operation Black Buck I - perhaps one of the riskiest yet most ambitious missions the RAF has ever carried out. This print visualises the complex dance of the multiple air-to-air refuelling missions needed to get one Vulcan Bomber to a target 4,000 miles away and back again during the Falklands conflict.

This is an updated version of an older design, with much more content and greater data accuracy.
For this print I worked in partnership with Squadron Leader Robert Tuxford AFC RAF Ret’d who flew the actual mission. Specifically, he was captain of the crucial final tanker crew that risked their lives by giving up their own fuel so the mission could proceed. I believe we have created what might be the most complete and accurate version of this diagram that currently exists.

The print visualises the mission as it happened on the night and including equipment failures, emergencies and unplanned fuel transfers. Each flight captain and airframe is labelled, with timings given for every sortie.

This is a limited edition of 100 signed and numbered prints.
