The heart of the mega city is heartbreaking

Suleymaniye and its surroundings, which are the 'heart' of the mega city, where the wooden houses with bay windows are among the few examples of Ottoman architecture in the Historic Peninsula, have been deplorable for years. As a UNESCO World Heritage site, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site where KIPTAS, a subsidiary of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM), has been building for a long time for urban transformation, and its surroundings seem to have come out of a kind of war. Although it is aimed to save wooden bay houses in the historical district with the project “Renovation of Suleymaniye”, the project cannot be completed. So much so that Küçükpazar, located under Süleymaniye, says 'hello' to its visitors with burnt houses, empty reinforced concrete buildings with doors and windows removed. The Golden Horn 'scenic' neighborhood was known for its single rooms in the past. Küçükpazar, one of the biggest refugee neighborhoods of the mega city, hosted Syrians who fled civil war for a while. Nowadays, it acts as a kind of refuge for Afghan, Pakistani and Bangladeshi immigrants. Here migrants are fighting for life in shelters built on the land of demolished buildings. However, Küçükpazar also contains some dangers. Security is one of the most burning issues with urban regeneration grievances.
