Dieses wissenschaftliche Modell zeigt ein männliches Exemplar der zur Ordnung der Schnabelfliegen (Mecoptera) gehörenden Skorpionsfliege. Nur die Männchen verfügen über den namengebenden Klammerapparat am Hinterleibsende, der lediglich dazu dient, das Weibchen während der Paarung festzuhalten.
Die Flügel der Skorpionsfliege stellen eine Besonderheit dar. Sie besitzt ein vorderes und hinteres Flügelpaar gleichartigen Typs mit einem vollständigen Adersatz. Ein evolutionsbiologischer Hinweis auf die Ursprünglichkeit dieses Insekts.

This scientific model shows a male specimen of the scorpion fly belonging to the order of the beak fly (Mecoptera). Only the males have the eponymous clip at the end of the abdomen, which is only used to hold the female during mating.
The wings of the scorpion fly represent a specialty. It has a front and rear pair of wings of the same type with a complete replacement of the veins. An evolutionary biological reference to the originality of this insect.

The fly came to the studio as a 36:1 scale model of 17kg weight.
The stalk on which the fly sits, is almost 1m long.
Nevertheless it has been manufactured extremely detailed.
In reality the insect measures just 18mm.
