Cancel Earthworms - Editorial Illustrations for The Atlantic

Editorial illustrations done for an article by Julia Rosen, published in The Atlantic's Life up Close series, under the art direction of Emily Jan.

This article is about a new species of invasive earthworms, commonly called jumping worms, or crazy worms, gradually taking over and transforming North American forests. The spread of these worms is, as one could have guessed, mostly caused by human activity.

I jumped on the opportunity to use a complementary palette of red and green, not only to make sure the worms would occupy an appropriate amount of visual space, but to emphasize the danger (red) of such invasive species in an otherwise balanced (green) ecosystem.
I greatly recommend reading this article, especially for those who live in the U.S, to better understand the roles humans have in the spread of invasive species and what can be done to prevent further damage.
